For about a year, I’ve been carrying a front pocket “card case” style wallet. It served its purpose well, but started to show its age. So I went hunting for a new one that would be equally light in weight, but would still sport the amount of card slots I need. I often read Ben Brooks’ writing over at The Brooks Review. It seems like Ben was on the same hunt I was. You can see parts of his saga here and here. Even though he seemingly solved his problem for now, the wallet he chose didn’t appeal to me. It seemed cheap. Even he said so. And my quest continued…

Enter the Slimmy from Koyono.
I had originally heard about the Slimmy while perusing my RSS feeds a few weeks ago. I took a look at their website and decided I would take the plunge. I’m so glad I did.
Thoughts
I can say that even though I haven’t been using the Slimmy for an extended period of time, I already really like it. First of all it’s.. well.. slim. Really slim.
Considering I currently have 6 credit cards, a few bills, and 2 IDs in the Slimmy, I’m particularly impressed that it doesn’t look any fatter than it does when it’s empty. Although the Slimmy is a bit bigger overall than my old Fossil card case, it’s much more adaptable. Swapping cards in and out isn’t a chore like it is with most slim wallets. You can fan out the slots on the Slimmy and easily slide cards or bills in and out.
There’s a slightly grippy material in two of the pockets as well. I can’t really describe it. They aren’t sticky or anything, but they have enough texture to keep your cards from sliding out. Another nice touch is the stitching on the far end of the Slimmy sort of pinches the edges of your cards for added protection against them sliding back out. You can hold the Slimmy upside-down and shake it and nothing comes loose.
Color & Size
The Slimmy comes in two colors as far as I can tell, and a couple of different sizes. I opted for the black standard Slimmy because personally I think the brown one looks like a wallet that gramps would carry around. I’m not saying that it’s ugly, it’s just not for me. There’s also a “Slimmy Slim” version, and although it’s quite nice looking, it’s a little too minimal for me. It would probably be well suited for those who only carry one or two cards and a couple loose bills.
Should I get one?
If you’re in the market for a nice wallet, care about looks as much as functionality, and have $35 to spare, I say go for it. As I said before, I think that the Slimmy is a great product and so far I’m totally satisfied.
Be sure to check out the clever video over on the Koyono website.
Note: Usually I’d take my own pictures of a product, but to be totally honest, the photos on the Slimmy site fully represent what I saw with my own eyes. If you really want to see photos from me, give me a shout on Twitter, and I’ll snap a couple for you.
