Saving energy is a task that we all want or feel the need to do. Especially in times where it’s so easy to recycle, so easy to buy compact fluorescent lamps, and a ton easier to cut back on things that we lavishly waste energy on. We never realize how much energy we’re letting slip through the cracks by the small things, but it can mean a lot when it comes to seeing that energy bill add up each month. This new little charger called the Mushroom GreenZero aims to, and does, fix this with ease.
When you order the GreenZero, you’re presented with three options: 30-pin connector, Micro USB, and the plain travel charger. The first option, 30-pin, will only work with Apple products and their 30-pin connector. This means that if you have an Android device, you can’t charge with it or remove the cord in order to use the standard one that came with your device. However, you are given the option of the Micro USB variation and it has the same limitations, but this time, only Android. Lastly, you have the plain travel charger. This one allows you to use the cable that came with your iPhone, iPod, Android device, etc to charge. There is nothing better nor worse about either product and it’s all a matter of choice and preference when it boils down to it.
On to the actual charger. The GreenZero works just as you would expect a wall charger to work. You plug it in, plug in your USB cable (if you chose that option) and plug it into your device. Unlike most wall chargers, your device will not start charging right away. Why? To save energy. The GreenZero needs to be pressed down for about a second until you get the full notification that your phone is being charged. On iPhones, it’s two vibrations, and on other devices, it a simple matter of time. Once that’s done your phone will charge — easy, simple — but the amazing part comes into effect when it’s finished charging. The GreenZero will automatically shut itself off and drain no energy. You’ll be able to notice once the small white light that indicates your device is charging stops illuminating. Easy, quick, simple.
The Green Zero introduces something that I haven’t seen done before and it does it in a fashionable, creative, and well-designed way. From its one-of-a-kind design, to its wondrous simplicity, I’d have to say the GreenZero is a much welcomed item. It’s definitely something that I would recommend for anyone out there trying to cut back on their energy bill or anyone who wants to make sure that they’re preserving Mother Earth. The Bracketron Mushroom GreenZero can be bought directly from Bracketron or from one of their trusted resellers starting at $27.95 and going up to $34.95 beginning early August 2012.
