Netflix Picks – Skid Row

Most of us are huge fans of Netflix. So why not share some great films that we come across while browsing the Instant Watch catalog! Netflix Picks will be a new regular feature here at Culture Milk. If you have films to share, feel free to leave a comment or shoot us an email. If we like it, we’ll watch it and write about it.

First up is “Skid Row” from Ross Clarke featuring Pras Michel of Fugees fame. This hard hitting documentary takes a critical look at homelessness in downtown Los Angeles.

Skid Row (which is the official name of the area in the city) has the highest concentration of homeless people in the country. The premise of the documentary is simple; Pras spends 9 days living as a homeless man in Skid Row. There’s no catch. There’s no assistance from the crew. There’s nothing but the disturbing reality that approximately 15,000 Americans face every day in this devastated area.

This film is not for the faint of heart. Skid Row is an uncensored look at one of the poorest areas in America. It’s not an award winner by any stretch, but it is an honest and eye-opening look at one of the worst problems we face as a society. If documentaries are your thing, I highly recommend checking it out.
